Ephesians 5:22-23 ICB

"Wives, be under the authority of your husbands, as of the Lord. The husband is the head of the wife, as Christ is the head of the church. The church is Christ’s body—Christ is the Savior of the body."

When I first read the scripture I thought, what am I going to say about this. It's pretty straight forward. For some these verses are a little controversial. Women under the authority of men? In today's culture this is seen as offensive and as men controlling their wives.

In the this time was written, households were very different. Households had multiple family members living with them, servants, and in some cases more than one wife.

What Paul is talking about is the love that Christ has for the church. Jesus loves us so much that He left heaven and gave his life for us. Not just for some, but for all.

Christ compels us to love everyone the same. Everyone. Even that annoying coworker. That one person who drives you crazy. The neighbor that maybe isn't the friendliest. Everyone.

My challenge to myself and you is to be aware of my interactions with others. Am I treating them the same as everyone else? Am I showing that unconditional love?

Let's focus on that unconditional love that Christ has for us and our neighbors.
