Families/Individuals with No Young Children

Families/Individuals with no young children, please follow this devotional by Rev. Ron Ray:

1 John 2:15-19 (please read this first)

Is it a sin to ... ?  Perhaps someone has asked you that question.  Perhaps you have asked that question of someone.  If you have received answers that were not in agreement, then likely you become more confused.  The Bible spells out clearly that there are some things that are declared to be sinful.  They usually start with the phrase “Thou shalt not.”    Some things are not spelled out so clearly so we must dig a little deeper.

In the passage being considered we do not see clearly defined what is meant by “the world.”  A few examples are given that are helpful in determining if a particular action is sin.  Does the action fall into one of the categories (“the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life”) then it is sinful.  Another question one must ask themselves is:  “Does it glorify God?”

All this can be somewhat confusing for the honest seeker after truth.  If we learn to respond in obedience to the truth God reveals to us, then we will grow and mature.  If we ignore what God is teaching, then we digress in our faith and must repent of our failure.

We receive revelations of God’s truth through our own personal and prayerful study of God’s Word (the Bible) as well as through Bible teaching and preaching.  Allow the Word of God to become living and active in your life.
