Families/Individuals with no young children, please follow this devotional by Rev. Ron Ray:
1 John 5:1-5 (please read this first)
This book of the Bible was written because many false prophets were attempting to lead those astray who had been born again. These new children of God needed instruction and encouragement. Certainly, there are such false prophets in the world today and we must not allow ourselves to be deceived by their teaching.
The false prophets at the time of the writing of these verses were teaching falsely regarding Jesus, saying that He was not the Christ. They denied that Jesus was the Messiah (Anointed of God). They denied that His death on the cross and his resurrection were the means of salvation.
The apostle John declares plainly that salvation cones because of believing that Jesus is the Christ (Messiah). It echoes (restates, compliments, and reinforces) John 3:16. Belief (faith) in the finished work of Jesus on the cross implies a change in life so that obedience is now ruling in our hearts. It shows that any faith that does not include obedience it not faith at all.
Other things in this passage that further describe faith in Christ are love (of God, of people) and, overcoming the world. This ability to overcome the world is available to the Christian through the indwelling Holy Spirit.
So be encouraged, child of God. If you fall, get up and believe God to restore you. See 1 John 2:1 & 2.
