Families/Individuals with No Young Children

Families/Individuals with no young children, please follow this devotional by Brian Price:

1 Peter 3:8-12 (NASB)

8 To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit; 9 not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing. 10 For, “THE ONE WHO DESIRES LIFE, TO LOVE AND SEE GOOD DAYS, MUST KEEP HIS TONGUE FROM EVIL AND HIS LIPS FROM SPEAKING DECEIT. 11 HE MUST TURN AWAY FROM EVIL AND DO GOOD; HE MUST SEEK PEACE AND PURSUE IT. 12 FOR THE EYES OF THE LORD ARE TOWARD THE RIGHTEOUS, AND HIS EARS ATTEND TO THEIR PRAYER, BUT THE FACE OF THE LORD IS AGAINST THOSE WHO DO EVIL.

This passage pertains to the Body of Christ, directly. We must first come to grips with the notion that retaliation with anything other than love is considered evil in the sight of our Lord. Do not downplay that thought. Malice feeds anger feeds malice. Jealousy and envy store up pride in our hearts. We all know, what’s in our hearts will spew out of our mouths, eventually (Matthew 15:18).

Peter and Silas are trying to warn us that these things divide the church and turn others away. To put it into perspective, if you saw a mass of people that are supposed to represent love constantly breaking off from each other, would you want to join them? Let that settle in.

So, if you’re going to retaliate, let it be with harmony, sympathy, as brothers and sisters, with a kind heart and humble spirit toward each other. Let the world “Know we are Christians by our Love”. When we are a properly functioning Body of Christ.... Ephesians 3:20-21. Look it up.

Question for discussion (or personal reflection): How can I better serve God and my church/family? Am I withholding any talents? Am I harboring any jealousy or envy toward others or their ministries? Pray/Discuss.

Lord, We ask that you give us peace in our hearts and a desire to build each other up. Fill us with all the fullness of Your Love.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen
