Philippians 1:7-11 (NASB)
7 For it is only right for me to feel this way about you all, because I have you in my heart, since both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers of grace with me. 8 For God is my witness, how I long for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. 9 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ; 11 having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
If you’ve never been to an alter, what’s stopping you? Pride? Embarrassment of displaying vulnerability? Fear of who’s watching? Be truthful. There are so many reasons we should be praying, legitimately praying, not just saying “I’ll pray for you” and going on about our day. We should be filling the alters, visiting our prayer closets as often as possible, keeping in continuous conversation with God. We don’t need a specific reason to pray. Just stop, get into the presence of God, and, at a minimum, give thanks.
We all know people that know and love God. We should be saying “Thank You” to Him who has started a good work in them (going back to Philippians 1:6). We also know many who do not believe. Those people need our prayers even more. Pray that a feeling of conviction leads them to seek Him. We serve the one true Living God that doesn’t see a lost sheep and say “I still have 99 more.”. Instead, He seeks them out and that is our example. We should also seek out the lost sheep because God has the other 99 in His care. Use the fruit of the Spirit and the 1 will see Christ Jesus through you.
Question for discussion (or personal reflection): Ask God to start the conversation. He will show you who to pray for. Once He shows you, pray together.
Father, We thank You for the ability to come to You as often as we want. Give us the boldness to lift others up to You in prayer.
In Jesus’ Name,
